kellie's castle

when i was in ipoh, the adventurous part of me beckon me to make a visit to kellie’s castle which is famed for its supernatural sightings. it was also the place where the king and i was partly filmed. according to some pictures at the ticket counter, one of levis’ ad was shot there. the entrance ticket cost me 4 bucks.

this is the section which housed the main stairways.

some of the wall details in one of the rooms.

a narrow passage to downstair. some sort like a shortcut.

the remnants of william kellie’s first mansion. it was just behind the castle. notice the well-looking hole at the lower right hand corner of the picture. it was a ventilation hole. for more info, please scroll down.

the unpainted bricks in one of the unfinished rooms.

at the top of the castle.

the buckle lift in the castle. supposed to be the first lift built in south east asia if not for kellie’s untimely death when he was bringing the lift from portugal according to the notice pasted besides it.

the upper corridor where kellie’s spirit was sighted. see anything?

the door to the wine cellar.

the dark and creepy stairway leading to the wine cellar above. yes, there were two entrance to the cellar.

the ground corridor where kellie’s spirit was also sighted.

the ruins of kellie’s bathroom in the first mansion. notice the thickness of the marble granite imported from italy.

the ventilation hole of the underground tunnel leading to a hindu temple nearby.

kellie’s castle. believe to house secret underground tunnels. care to explore?

this is not situated at kellie's castle. it is the birch memorial tower located somewhere in ipoh old town. i thought this tower was built in the 1800s but to my disappointment, it was build in 1989 according to the information there. i want something ancient not modern mind you.

ipoh

i was in ipoh recently for work. the drive took me about 2-1/2 hours from kl. the above is one of the mountains that could be found along the north south expressway.

on my way back to kl.

besides its famous nga choy kai and hor fun, ipoh also reminds me of my ipoh friends. i was dearly reminded of a friend which i made when i was studying in malacca. his name is cern yee. i hope he read this although i know it is almost impossible. we got to know each other quite well chatting online. we almost got together if not for the religion matter or some other stuff. until this day, i regretted for not telling him my feeling. i remember asking him if there’s a girl he likes. he said yes, he used to like this girl but not anymore. deep down inside, we both know who the girl was and i felt like a knife cut through me when he told me. but i made it as though nothing has happened and from that day onwards, we began to drift apart. then i moved to cyberjaya while he remained in malacca. i did write to him and he replied but i wrote again, he did not reply. i sensed his disinterest and that’s why i did not pursue him further. he is an intelligent guy. kind of quiet but interested in football. although we lost touch, i know he will be working in some prestigious engineering co. maybe he’s happily married to a nice lutheran girl. before i left ipoh, i whispered to myself some farewell words i would say to him if we met. i was almost in tears because i know this is one of the things i ever regret of not doing. he will always hold a special place in my heart cause he is one of the few guys i have actually like a lot.

cern yee, i will always appreciate the memories that we shared together and i wish you well always. i hope we will meet each other again. goodbye.
